Hello! My name is Laura. I have made Washington Island, Wisconsin my home since 1980 when I met my husband, who happens to be a 5th generation native Islander. I have dedicated the last 3 decades along with my husband raising our three children who are now all amazing adults. Our youngest has autism and we as a family have been helping him be the best he can be for the last 24 years. What a ride it has been! He has come such a long way and is now living an hour and a half away, including a ferry ride! from us 5 days a week living and working with some fantastic people and other adults with disabilities. We have never seen him so fulfilled. He is home on weekends and this transition has made our whole family healthier and happier. Our two oldest are living their best independent lives as well, thus this has led me to re-open my jewelry web page after 7 years of nurturing everyone else. It’s my time to create unencumbered! So here I am💜

I studied Design with an emphasis in Jewelry and Metalsmithing at the University of Kansas from 1977-1980. I have always been inspired by nature, all kinds of symmetry, balance, color and the challenge of working with metals, gemstones and techniques that inspire me to create beauty that adorns the body. By using techniques such as soldering, smithing (hammering), cutting and piercing, patinating copper, incorporatng gemstones, and most recently wire weaving my work encompasses a love of the creative spirit, reaching back to the original Greek, Roman and Etruscan artisans and accentuating a person’s own intrinsic beauty. In 1986 I opened my first jewelry shop and have been creating jewelry off and on since then. I feel a deep connection to this creative process and it keeps me happy, fulfilled and healthy in my everyday life.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or special stones I can show you. Personal commissions will take up to 2 months to complete. Much of my work that I have in stock is one of a kind. If there is something you see here and it is not in stock and I can re-create it, please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery as I will be handcrafting it specially for you.  Please plan your gifts accordingly.
